About Us
I wasn't an outdoorsy kid. Growing up it was BMX, then skateboarding, a detour through football and track, then back to skateboarding in college.
Then I found a Craigslist ad for a used mountain bike while looking for used car parts (I still do this). A 1992 Raleigh M400, blue, elastomer front fork, same age as me. Bought it on a whim.
First ride, I was so frustrated I almost quit, no apps, barely any cell service out there, I was riding off a paper map and absolutely no clue what I was doing. Second ride, I made a friend at the trailhead who gave me all the ins and outs and got me up to speed, including onto a modern bike for 2012, a Gary Fisher Mamba hardtail, 100mm coil sprung fork, mechanical disc brakes, likely BB7s. That bike made a world of difference, but honestly, that friend made the bigger one. From there I was obsessed. From there I was obsessed. I joined the cycling team in college and flipped bikes off Craigslist to fund downhill racing, way before Facebook Marketplace existed.
I loved it so much, my first purchase after college was a used 100k mile Tacoma, just to do shuttle runs. Having a truck got me even more into the outdoors, camping constantly, exploring further, chasing new trails. That combination, camping trips built around mountain biking, is the real genesis of SideRide. I needed a way to haul my bike without eating up my limited truck bed space. I tried roof racks, hitch racks, everything, none of it worked the way I needed.
Riding, running, hiking, or just being outside gives you something almost nothing else does, creativity, community, and freedom all in the same hour. Solo, it's meditative. With people, it's some of the most fun you'll ever have.
Getting into the outdoors has infinitely improved my life. Trailhead Werks exists so more people get that same shot.
Built to get you to the trailhead.
